Bourno's Make and Take for IronStock 2008
Radio Controlled Crawling Zombie Mechanism
This is a kit for one complete, ready to go after it is built RC
crawler mechanism.
Clothing, mask, zombie guts, etc not included.

What you get in the kit (pics coming):

  •  2 high-torque DC motors with swivels already welded on
  •  2 custom mounts for the motors above
  •  choice of radio controls (see kit pricing below)
  •  choice on buying 2 high capacity NiMH batteries and smart charger (see kit pricing
    below)
  •  2 custom aluminum arms pre-cut, pre-drilled to assemble
  •  2 custom made swivel joint to arm attachments
  •  4 pieces of wood pre-cut, pre-beveled, ready to assemble
  •  All hardware is included in the kit

What do I need to bring to assemble it?

If you can, please bring a #2 phillips screwdriver, pliers or small adjustable wrench

What if I am not good at drilling and such?

Not to worry, all the hard pieces will be already made/drilled/machined as we
wouldn't have time or the equipment to start from scratch.  The class will be more
on nuts/bolts, some wiring, and SUCCESS.

When do I get the kit?

At IronStock either on Saturday or Sunday whenever we are scheduled to have a
great time building these

How long will the Make and Take be?

Most likely about an hour or so.  We will talk about each step when building as to
why and how each part does what.

Okay, how much is it?  And how do I sign up?

I decided to have 5 options on building the RC crawler as some
may not want to spent a lot now and upgrade later, or may have
batteries from doing RC car or boats, and a choice on $$ for the
crawler controls.

Crawler Only Option:                                                        $120
This is for building the crawler only without any radio controller
or batteries for it.  (For someone who had extra parts and
pieces from the RC hobby and could add in their own controls)

Crawler with Basic controller, no batteries or charger:        $150
This is for building the crawler with a basic controller, but
supplying their own 7.2 volt RC car batteries.

Crawler with Basic controller and 2 batteries and charger:  $220

Crawler with a Vex radio, no batteries or charger:              $255
This is for building the crawler with a transmitter, receiver,
and 2 electronic speed controls.

Crawler with a Vex radio and 2 batteries and charger:        $315

This is a Pre-Register / Pre-Pay class in order to purchase and
make the parts and gather up the supplies needed for the
participants.  You can pay by using the paypal button above or
send a check to:

What is the difference between the Basic and Vex controls?

The Basic control is 2 radio controlled relay boards controlled by
2 small separate transmitters.  These are all on the same radio
frequency with different operation codes (kinda like a garage
door opener).  This can provide forward movement for one or
both sides, or reverse movement for one or both sides, but not
at the same time.  These movements either have the motors full
on or off.  Also, you need to be a away from any other sets of
Basic controllers (couple hundred feet) or they will make the
other one not work when someone else is transmitting too close
by.

The Vex radio is a 6 channel hobby transmitter on the 75mhz
ground frequency range using a receiver to control 2 electronic
speed controls.  The transmitters will be on different frequencies
so you can play next to another crawler.  The speed controls
allows the motors to move very slowly, and up to full speed as
you want.  Also, you can have one side running forward and the
other side running reverse which the basic controller cannot do.

My preference would be the Vex radio which is easier to plug
the speed controls into instead of wiring to relays.  And allows
expansion for someone who may want to add a water pump to
make it a spitter as well controlled by a servo or electronic
switch.

How long do I get to decide whether I want to participate?

May 26th will be the cut off date to sign up and pay.

Got Questions??

E-mail me at bourno@teambac.com  I will try my best to answer
them.

Not sure yet, read the comments from a couple others who got
a crawler from me last year.

Jim - "there were crowds of people gathered around the front gates of my cemetery
watching the crawler crawl towards them at the front gates!  They were all shouting
"look at that"!  "He's coming after us"!  "That is soooo coooool!"   It was the
greatest!  Some were even giving him a name and calling him like a pet!"

WormyT - "Thanks to you for a wonderful prop. The kids and parents loved
watching and controlling the zombie."
